If you’re looking to unplug from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with history, heritage, and flavour, CGH Earth Saha Mansao Curtorim in South Goa offers the perfect setting. Set in the sleepy, scenic village of Curtorim, this 236-year-old Indo-Portuguese mansion has been meticulously restored by CGH Earth to celebrate Goa’s layered past while offering guests a serene, immersive stay.
A Home Steeped in Time
Once a private home, this elegant villa has been thoughtfully brought back to life with the help of local craftsmen and conservationists. From its red-oxide floors and carved wooden doors to the antique furniture and arched colonnades, every detail has been preserved or restored to reflect the home’s original character.
There are six spacious rooms, each distinct in layout and design. I stayed here for two nights with my mum and sister. Our rooms (one with a four-poster bed) were simple yet beautifully appointed, with high ceilings, wooden windows, and antique touches. The living room is full of personality, with art-filled walls and coffee table books that explore Goa’s architecture, flora, and forgotten stories.
A Slow Life in Curtorim
Curtorim, often called the ‘granary of Salcete’, is one of Goa’s oldest and most culturally rich villages. Surrounded by lush paddy fields, coconut groves, and quiet water bodies, it’s a part of Goa that remains untouched by the frenzy of beach tourism. A visit to the Church of St. Alex, built in 1597, offers insight into the village’s Portuguese past and its enduring spiritual traditions. Early mornings here are a treat filled with birdsong, and the distant chime of church bells.
If you enjoy slow walks or cycling, the surrounding lanes are perfect for exploring. CGH Earth can also arrange experiences like a visit to a local spice plantation, traditional fishing experiences, or cooking demonstrations.
The Food: A Celebration of Goan Flavour
Saha Mansao Curtorim deeply honors Goa’s culinary identity. Meals are curated daily based on fresh, seasonal produce and local ingredients, and they tell the story of Goa through taste.
Lunch is served as a traditional Goan thali with dishes like Sol Kadi, Vegetable Xacuti, Fish Curry, local rice, and seasonal vegetables. Dinner is a four-course affair, plated and served with thoughtfulness. Meals are served either in the shaded open-air pavilion or in the more formal indoor dining room, depending on the weather. My only suggestion would be to broaden the dinner menu slightly for guests staying more than a night, perhaps introducing lighter or pan-Indian options for variety, especially if you’re dining on both nights.
